What is the best AI receptionist for a UK salon?
The best AI receptionist for your salon is the one that books straight into the diary you already use. - checking who is free for the service and offering real slots,
- booking, moving or cancelling the appointment,

General-purpose AI receptionists also exist, such as Aira from $24.95 a month (USD), which connects to Google Calendar, Outlook and Cal.com.5 They suit a business with one calendar. A salon diary with a column per stylist and services of different lengths usually needs a salon-specific tool.
Which one fits your salon?
- You are a Treatwell partner and run your diary in Treatwell. Treatwell's own receptionist manages appointments in that calendar and starts at £69 a month. That is the obvious first look.
- You are on Phorest, Meevo or Square. Salon Agent books against your live availability in those three and publishes its prices. Remember they are in US dollars.
- You are on Fresha, Booksy or another system without a live integration. Check exactly what happens on the call. Salon Agent, for example, captures the booking and hands it to your team for those systems, so a person still has to put it in the diary.
- You run on Zenoti. Zenoti's own receptionist is built into the platform; ask for the price, as it is not published.
- You want the phone, the diary and the till in one system. Aria books straight into the Daviana diary, re-checks the slot at the moment of booking, and saves a note of the call on the client's record. If you are staying on another booking system, Aria is not the right choice.
What should nail and beauty salons check?
Nail and beauty diaries are harder for an AI than a single haircut, because one visit often means two services, two people, or a service that has to fit around another. Test these on any demo:
- Two services in one visit. Ask for a gel manicure and a pedicure together, or nails while hair colour develops, and see whether it offers one visit or two unrelated bookings.
- The right therapist for the treatment. Not every therapist does every treatment. The AI should only offer people who actually do the service.
- Treatment length. A full set of extensions and an infill are different lengths. Check it books the time the treatment really takes.
- Questions it should not answer alone. Anything about allergies, skin reactions or aftercare should go to a person, and so should anything about money.

How much are unanswered calls costing you? A worked example
Take three numbers from your own phone bill and diary: how many calls ring out in a week, what share of callers wanted to book, and your average booking value.
